In short
A deep clean covers everything in a regular clean plus the build-up it skips: inside the oven and appliances, limescale, skirting boards, behind furniture and high surfaces. It takes noticeably longer than a regular clean, and on Holler you see the price before you book.
Deep clean vs regular clean
| Regular clean | Deep clean | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Keep a clean home clean | Get a home properly clean |
| Kitchen | Worktops, hob, sink, outside of appliances | Plus inside the oven, microwave and fridge, degreasing, cupboard fronts scrubbed |
| Bathrooms | Wipe and clean all surfaces | Plus descaling taps and shower screens, grout, behind the toilet |
| Rooms | Dust and vacuum reachable areas | Plus skirting boards, door frames, light switches, behind and under furniture |
| How often | Weekly or fortnightly | A few times a year, or one-off |
Exactly what is included varies by cleaner, so check what they list and use the in-app chat to confirm anything specific — inside the fridge, for example — before the day.
When you need a deep clean
- Before starting regular cleaning, so every visit after can stay short
- Spring cleaning or before hosting guests
- After building work or decorating — dust gets everywhere
- Moving in to a home that was not left clean
- After illness or a long period when cleaning slipped
If you are a tenant moving out, book an end-of-tenancy clean instead — it is a deep clean aimed at the landlord’s or agent’s checklist, with the home empty.
How long a deep clean takes
Longer than a regular clean of the same home — often around one and a half times as long, and more if it has not been cleaned for a while. What makes the biggest difference:
- The number of bedrooms and especially bathrooms
- How long since it was last properly cleaned
- Extras such as the inside of the oven or fridge
- How much furniture and clutter there is to work around
For a rough idea, try the cleaning price calculator. Larger homes are sometimes done by more than one cleaner to finish in a day.
How to get ready
- Clear worktops, floors and surfaces so the cleaner can get to them
- Empty the fridge if you want it cleaned inside
- Point out anything delicate — natural stone, wooden floors, specialist finishes
- Make sure there is hot water and somewhere to park, or tell your cleaner if there is not

How long does a deep clean take?
Usually around one and a half times as long as a regular clean of the same home, and more if it has been a while. Bathrooms and the oven take the most time.
How often should you deep clean your house?
Many people book one a few times a year alongside regular cleaning, or once before starting regular cleans. There is no fixed rule — book one when regular cleaning is no longer keeping up.
Is a deep clean the same as an end-of-tenancy clean?
They are similar, but an end-of-tenancy clean is done in an empty property and aims to meet the landlord’s or letting agent’s checklist so you can get your deposit back.
