Cleaning costs

How much does a cleaner cost?

There is no single price for a cleaner — it depends on your home, the clean you want and where you live. Here is what moves the price up or down, so you can tell a fair quote from a poor one.

In short

What a cleaner costs depends on the size of your home, the type of clean (regular, deep or end-of-tenancy), how often you book, who supplies the products and local rates where you live. On Holler you see the full price before you book, and it includes everything.

The short answer

Cleaners charge either by the hour or a fixed price per job. Either way, the price comes down to how long the clean takes and the rate in your area. Rates vary a lot between cities, towns and rural areas, so a national average tells you little about what you will pay.

The quickest way to find out is to look at real prices for your address. In the Holler app you set your address, choose the clean, and the price is shown up front before you book — no quote to chase.

What affects the price

  • Size of the home — bedrooms and especially bathrooms add time
  • Type of clean — a deep clean or end-of-tenancy clean takes much longer than a regular clean of the same home
  • How often you book — a home cleaned weekly needs less time per visit than one cleaned monthly
  • The state of the home — the first visit, or one after a long gap, takes longer
  • Supplies — some cleaners bring products and equipment and price that in; others use yours
  • Extras — inside the oven or fridge, ironing, inside windows
  • Where you live — local rates, travel and parking all play a part
  • Specialist work — oven and window cleaning use specialist kit and are priced differently, often by room or by window

Worked examples

These are illustrations of how the maths works, not typical prices. The rate in each is made up to show the calculation — what you pay depends on your area and your cleaner.

ExampleHours (example)At an example rate of £20/hour
Regular fortnightly clean, 2-bed flat2.5£50 a visit
One-off deep clean, same flat4£80
End-of-tenancy clean, same flat, empty6£120

The point is the shape: the same flat costs very different amounts depending on the type of clean. To estimate hours for your own home, try the cleaning price calculator.

Hourly or fixed price?

A fixed price is easier to budget for — you know the cost before the cleaner arrives, however long it takes. Hourly pricing is common for regular cleans, but the total depends on how many hours are booked. If you are given an hourly rate, always ask how many hours they expect.

Compare total prices for the same job, not hourly rates. A faster cleaner on a higher rate can cost less overall.

Hidden costs to watch for

  • Booking or admin fees added at the end
  • Extra charges for supplies you assumed were included
  • Minimum visit lengths that make a small flat cost as much as a house
  • Charges for parking or travel not mentioned in the quote
  • Cash-only arrangements, which leave you with no record if something goes wrong

On Holler, the price shown when you book includes everything and you pay it in the app. There is no booking fee for customers on top.

Getting good value

  • Book a deep clean first if the home needs it, so regular visits can stay short
  • Tidy before the cleaner arrives — you are paying for cleaning, not tidying
  • Agree priorities so time goes on what matters to you
  • Choose on reviews and reliability, not just the lowest price — see how to choose a cleaner

Questions people ask

How much does a cleaner cost per hour in the UK?

It varies a lot by area and by cleaner, so there is no single figure. The fairest way to compare is the total price for your home and the type of clean. In the Holler app you see the price for your address before you book.

How many hours of cleaning do I need?

It depends on the size of the home, how often it is cleaned and the type of clean. The cleaning price calculator gives a rough estimate of hours.

Why does a deep clean cost more than a regular clean?

It takes longer. A deep clean covers inside appliances, limescale, skirting boards and behind furniture — work that a regular clean skips.

Do cleaners bring their own supplies?

Some do and price it in; others use yours. Ask before the first visit so you know what is included.

Are there any extra fees when booking on Holler?

No. The price shown when you book includes everything, and you pay it in the app. There is no booking fee on top for customers.
